U.S. Chamber of Commerce Fights Back

October 25, 2009

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is fighting back against the assault against free enterprise. It has launched a campaign to explain the role of business in creating jobs. Visit their new site at http://www.freeenterpriseamerica.com/ and sign the pledge in support of free enterprise. Here are the reasons they give for launching this campaign:

* As a nation, we face major policy challenges in areas such as health care, energy, and the environment. But no challenge is greater—or more important— than reviving the economy, restoring the 7 million jobs lost to the current recession, and creating the 13 million new jobs that will be needed over the next decade.

* While government efforts to stimulate the economy are considered useful in the short term, it’s the free enterprise system that will grow our economy and create jobs over the long term.

* American Free Enterprise. Dream Big. reminds all of us that individual initiative, hard work, freedom of choice, and the free exchange of trade, capital, and ideas built this great country and can lead us back to prosperity.

It is sad that the general knowledge about what made America prosperous has declined to the point where the standard response to every difficulty has become turning to government for a bailout or some legislation that supposedly will fix the perceived problem. The Chamber’s campaign to change people’s outlook from being pawns of the government to free people who can take initiative and create wealth is a welcome antidote to the confusion of our time.
