French President to Obama: Wrong Date to Visit Copenhagen

Nicolas Sarkozy 150x150 French President to Obama: Wrong Date to Visit CopenhagenFrench President Nicolas Sarkozy is telling President Obama that his December 9th visit to the Copenhagen global warming summit is too early. The meetings last from Dec. 7 – Dec. 18 and Sarkozy expects decisive action not to occur until the very end when, according to the Danish prime minister, at least 85 heads of state will attend. Sarkozy thinks Obama should come Dec. 17 or return on that date for a second visit.

obama 150x150 French President to Obama: Wrong Date to Visit CopenhagenFor Obama Copenhagen is just a small detour on his way to receive the Nobel Peace Price in Oslo on Dec. 10. His first trip to Copenhagen in October attempting to persuade the International Olympic Committee to award the 2016 Olympics to Chicago didn’t turn out too well. It is understandable that he doesn’t want to linger in the place where he was humiliated by the Olympic Committee when they awarded Chicago the least number of votes right after hearing Obama’s appeal.

But given his support for the global warming cause, Obama is finding it difficult to avoid coming to Copenhagen altogether especially since he will be in the neighborhood. He also knows that what he would need to promise in terms of carbon emission reductions and global wealth redistribution to make the global warmongers happy will never pass the US Senate. But if he must go, he apparently prefers to get it over with quickly and move on to receive the world’s or at least the Nobel Committee’s adulation in Oslo. Copenhagen is for Obama like going to the dentist and Oslo is like a rock concert where he is the star.

Could this be one case where Obama’s narcissism leads to a positive outcome, i.e. his absence during the decisive moments in Copenhagen and, as a result, his inability to personally make concessions on US sovereignty?
