Dem. Senator Attacks Free Speech, Wants to Shut Down Fox News and MSNBC

November 18, 2010

In a rare glimpse into the intolerance of the Left, Senator Nelson Rockefeller showed his utter contempt for free speech (via Hot Air):

There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the F.C.C. to say to Fox and to MSNBC, “Out. Off. End. Goodbye.”

Fortunately, the FCC does not have any authority to regulate cable news. Fox News reported this evening that Rockefeller’s wife is the head of the Washington, DC NPR affiliate. The new Congress is likely to cut off funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, NPR’s parent company. So Rockefeller may be ticked off by the likely end of government funded propaganda masquerading as “news” that is peddled by his wife.

Clearly, though Rockefeller has no respect for the Constitution and its Bill of Rights which guarantees that our government cannot restrict freedom of speech. Leftist politicians usually try to portray themselves as protectors of free speech, but when they are losing support from the American people, their intolerant authoritarian impulses quickly come to the surface.

Update: Future Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor spoke today in the House on eliminating taxpayer funding for NPR:
